Fresh from winning two medals at the recent Asean ICT Awards in the Start-Up and Research and Development categories, WISE AI continues pushing the boundaries.
One such way is to try and unearth new talent in the artificial intelligence and facial recognition fields by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Sungai Long, on Dec 2.
WISE AI co-founder and business director Justin Goh inked the deal on behalf of the company while Utar president Ir. Prof. Dr Ewe Hong Tat represented the university.
The deal was witnessed by WISE AI’s Partnership Manager Audrey Foo and UTAR vice-president Ir. Prof. Dr Yow Kwang.
WISE AI will work closely with UTAR’s Department of Internet Engineering and Computer Science in developing talent.
The MoU comes after WISE AI’s lead engineer Dr Lim Chern Loon held a talk in UTAR in August.
During his presentation, Dr Lim spoke about ‘Facial Recognition and Computer Vision: The future of Artificial Intelligence’, and shared WISE AI’s vision, mission and goal.
It was well-received by the students who were intrigued to find out WISE AI is a Malaysian company.
“Dr Lim had a good session and opened many eyes. WISE AI is always on the lookout for new talent as artificial intelligence and facial recognition are expanding rapidly,” said Goh.
“WISE AI has always been keen to work with universities to help develop talent as it will benefit the country as a whole.
“I’m excited to be working with UTAR and to see how far we can take this partnership,” Goh added.
Among the goals of the MoU are for WISE AI to provide up to three months’ subscription of facial recognition application programme interface (API) for free to UTAR final year student projects which shall be used for research and demonstration purposes.
WISE AI will also help nurture talents by providing outstanding achievement awards worth up to RM500 for eligible UTAR students or student teams that are outstanding in utilising the WISE AI API in their entries at recognised ICT competitions.
“The parties will also facilitate the exchange of ideas and collaboration for research, professional exchanges, curriculum development, and/or participation in relevant seminars, conferences and workshops,” said Goh.
